Cornerstone exists because of Jesus. We are a people who have been transformed by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has forgiven us and adopted us into his family. Now, we have a whole new life.
Through the gospel, God redeems us, forgives us, and adopts us into his family. The good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection makes each one of us a new creation and gives us a new identity: children of God. This is why we can never think of the church as an organization or a building. The church is actually a family—God’s family, filled with redeemed sinners that are now his children.
Through the gospel, God forgives us, adopts us into his family, and makes us his disciples. This means that the church is not just any family. We are a family formed by God—and sent out with a purpose.
The church is a family that ministers to one another, cares for one another, and builds one another up. Each member of the family is a child of God who is uniquely gifted to bless the family and to be a light in our city.
Just like a vine grows best with a good trellis, our church family grows best with good programs. Our programs and ministries are tailored to support the community and mission God has given us.
In addition to our foundational classes, we also offer equipping in a more hands-on, practical setting through our cohorts. Our cohorts typically last 3-4 months at a time and are offered in either the Fall or Spring. Cohorts consist of a group of 10-20 Cornerstone members who commit to a program of reading, practical ministry experience, written assignments, and group discussions for the purpose of growing in a particular area of ministry. We offer cohorts in areas of ministry such as: -Community Group Leading -Counseling -Preparation for Pastoral Ministry -Teaching -Corporate Worship Leading -Local Outreach and Evangelism
For those who are interested in learning to help care for others and to be better equipped in counseling and discipleship, we offer cohort that involves reading, Scripture meditation, practical ministry experience, observation, and group discussion. For those who would like to become certified biblical counselors, an internship can be added to the cohort in order to pursue certification through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. To start the application process for our Counseling Cohort, please contact scott@cornerstonewla.org.
This cohort is designed for current community group leaders or those who are going to be leading community groups in the future. We will be discussing the purpose of community groups, what discipleship looks like in the context of community groups, how community groups can live on mission together, and how to resolve logistical issues that arise when leading. For more information on the Community Group Leader Cohort, please contact matt@cornerstonewla.org.
