Cornerstone exists because of Jesus. We are a people who have been transformed by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has forgiven us and adopted us into his family. Now, we have a whole new life.
Through the gospel, God redeems us, forgives us, and adopts us into his family. The good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection makes each one of us a new creation and gives us a new identity: children of God. This is why we can never think of the church as an organization or a building. The church is actually a family—God’s family, filled with redeemed sinners that are now his children.
Through the gospel, God forgives us, adopts us into his family, and makes us his disciples. This means that the church is not just any family. We are a family formed by God—and sent out with a purpose.
The church is a family that ministers to one another, cares for one another, and builds one another up. Each member of the family is a child of God who is uniquely gifted to bless the family and to be a light in our city.
Just like a vine grows best with a good trellis, our church family grows best with good programs. Our programs and ministries are tailored to support the community and mission God has given us.
"Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise" –Psalm 119:41 ESV
The goal of Junior Church at Cornerstone is to raise up young men and women who understand what it means to be a part of the church, who love Jesus greatly, and who deeply understand the Word of God and its implications for their lives.
Wherever possible we love to coordinate what adults and youth are learning; therefore in Junior Church students are taught on the same passage and main points as the adults are being taught in the main service. This allows for parents to engage their children in discussion about the teaching more easily, and encourages parental discipleship.
We long to see 3rd-7th graders who deeply grasp God's Word by walking verse by verse through the passages, and who understand the implications of God's Word for their lives.
Junior Church is available for students in 3rd-7th grade. This is the age when students begin asking deep and foundational questions about God, forgiveness and guilt, love, and their purpose in this world. Jr Church comes alongside these students to help them find powerful answers in God's Word.
Junior Church students accompany their parents to the main service for welcome, songs, Communion, the greeting, God's Activity, and the pastoral prayer, and then are dismissed to their teachers at the end of the pastoral prayer.
Students are dismissed from the main service and escorted to the Community Building by a leader. They are given a short time to play in the gym or in the back green space.
After this play time, students are brought into the Youth Room (C5), given some water, and study the same passage being taught in the main service. The teaching is simplified and students are challenged to think deeply about how God's truth is relevant for their life.
